Chicago man returns home to find his bride, Mildred Helsing, 26, strangled in their apartment. A knotted black ribbon and a $15 purse missing point to robbery as the motive. Police hold a negro janitor in technical custody as they probe entry and killer identity.
Associated Press reports Norfolk Virginia youth Fergus Reid Jr son of a wealthy family was held on a technical manslaughter charge after his car struck 60 year old Peter Nearby. Nearby died at Mt Sinai hospital after the collision, Reid had come to New York to launch a business venture.
Louis Brown a Black railroad worker for the L and N was killed when a motor handcar left the tracks near Chef Menteur in New Orleans today. Four other Black employees sustained injuries and were hospitalized.
Mississippi officials consider using the McGuire property on South Grand for a Fort Miro memorial with federal aid possibly reaching fifty thousand dollars. The police jury approved a plan to raise five hundred dollars to match another five hundred from the city for a one year option on the land, with a committee to study the matter.
In Pineville Kentucky Ruth Robinson 19 of Cary shot and killed Mrs Sophia Patrick Massingale on railroad tracks. Robinson said Massingale took her husband and that she was threatened by Massingale prior to the encounter. Robinson fled or hid the pistol as she told clerks to call police.

O K Warnick, 28, is charged with fatally shooting Deputy Sheriff Travis Powell in Lepanto Arkansas after a late night dance hall quarrel. Witnesses say Warnick, drinking, fought with his wife before returning with a pistol and firing twice at Powell, who returned fire but missed.
J. M Cole a 50 year old banker from Union Mississippi died in a Birmingham hospital from injuries after a fall from a second floor window in a southside residence. He and his wife and child were visiting Dr. W. W. Long's home when the accident happened. Mrs Cole said he apparently tried to lower the window and lost balance. The fall caused a fractured skull and other injuries.

In New Orleans on April 2 L V Stanford vice president of Sinclair Oil arrived to study the possibility of shifting shipments from New Orleans to Houston Texas. Reports say Sinclair interests are seriously considering the move in the near term.

The plan would establish a federal agency to oversee long term public works, speed hiring during downturns, and fund with 150 million dollars. T G Pate Jackson star pitcher for the Dequincy Orleans club died at St Patrick s sanitarium in Lake Charles from injuries sustained in a Saturday night automobile crash near Sulphur on the Old Spanish Trail.
Memphis, April 2. Warrants issued for Lawrence M. True 28 assistant cashier of the Memphis district U S Engineers charged with 1800 short to his accounts. True vanished noon Tuesday. The largest item is a $1000 cash check. Police in surrounding cities and St Louis asked to watch for him.
Mrs. H. E. Hammock, 76, of DeRidder, was crushed by a 4000 pound weight near Singer on the DeQuincy Deridder highway while watching a stump puller. She died several hours later at Deridder sanitarium. Her son E. E. Hammock of DeQuincy accompanied her.
