Soldiers Convoy to Camp Here April 13 14

Twin Cities Hit By Two Early Fires In West Monroe Monroe
Two early morning blazes in Monroe and West Monroe caused heavy damage totaling three fires in under 24 hours. The 1110 Bennie Breece Street home owned by J. D. Ederard was a total loss with two dogs killed and Mrs. J Johnson and her children escaping unharmed. The Monroe residence at 403 K Street owned by Mrs. J Johnson was gutted after flames swept through it, with Jason Johnson reporting they woke to sparks and escaped. Firefighters fought both blazes from about 12:15 to 2:40 a.m. and returned to the stations shortly after.

Franklin parish search for missing farmer Leon Hitt entered a second day with about 50 people in a trek through the Bocuf river swamp near Three River bridge. Hitt, 43, disappeared Tuesday while fishing with Jack Muckelraph Abner Hitt and Rev. Tom Parker. An air search by Ray Clawson and State Trooper W W Miller joined morning operations. Authorities lack signs of drowning and assume he wandered into dense underbrush.
