Deputies hunted two armed suspects after 18 year old Marshall W. Brown III was shot dead in a Scenic Highway supermarket parking lot. A 28 year old Pineville man, Joseph DeRoche, confessed to three of six Monroe burglaries after a night watchman spotted tampering at the J B McCoy Lumber Co. Police investigated further break ins at Arnie's Cafe and Johnson Brothers Texaco. One cafe safe yielded about $60. An apartment break in on DeSiard Street had no reported loss.
