Soldiers from the Second and Third Armies push to raise fighting morale during a weeks long Louisiana training exercise. Officers report growing determination and enthusiasm as troops simulate battle under strenuous conditions despite fatigue and rule clashes between units.
The 36th annual Louisiana late Firemen's convention will open Tuesday at the Virginia hotel Monroe. Registration runs 9 a.m. to 12 noon with events beginning at 1 p.m. Officials include President Jules Kert and speakers such as Mayor Harvey Benoit Captain W J Cook and Captn W J Cook. A memorial service and lectures follow before a finale event in Bernstein park at 8 p.m. with Sam Caldwell delivering the Third Page address.

George Williams 19 of Millhaven road died from internal injuries after a highway crash near Spencer Louisiana Thursday. The dairy truck driver reportedly lost control. Williams died at 3 am Saturday after doctors cited steering wheel pressure as the cause. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs C Y Williams two brothers and a sister. Funeral arrangements by Davis Lawhead pending arrival of a Marine brother from West Virginia.
Attorney General Eugene Stanley superseded Tangipahoa District Attorney Bolivar E. Kemp Jr. in cases tied to Sheriff Frank M. Edwards allegations against Jerome A. Hayes. Robert H. Lee was ordered to advise the Tangipahoa grand jury and ensure testimony is recorded. Edwards accuses Hayes of conspiracy to destroy public records and slander.
