Tuesday saw a record airmail mailings on train No 202 and about 1000 letters left on a third class postoffice. Three quarters of mail is for armed forces. Heaviest business in Choudrant post office history.

A Moscow communique says the Red Army overran nearly 200 villages and killed about 4 000 Germans as it pushed toward Puavnograd on the Kharkov Crimea line. Soviet forces attacked a 60 mile front, driving the Nazis from the Donets basin and nearing Nezhin, 72 miles from Kiev.
The bodies of five Army Air Forces trainees were located 10 miles southeast of Ashland, Kansas. Pilot Second Lieutenant Robert D. Pinkerton, 24, of Austin Texas, and navigation instructor Second Lieutenant Gordon W. Scott, 26, were identified among the dead along with Aviation Cadets Kerl F. Ryker 22 of Hollywood California Leonard E. Vogel 22 of Milwaukee Wisconsin and Henry E. Walker 22 of Colton Oregon. The plane was from the navigation school at San Marcos Texas and disappeared more than three hours earlier.
