In Laredo Texas a woman suspect in a burglary jumped an eight foot wall and fled two blocks before police overtook her. Deputy Williams said she and her husband, Sam F. Colson and Margaret Colson of Asheville North Carolina, were arrested after a car they were driving overturned during a country road chase following the burglary of Mrs J G White.
Gordon Newman, 45, Amite county farmer, is charged with murder after allegedly shooting his wife at Gillsburg Mississippi and entering Dr. A D Root’s office in Kentwood Louisiana to fire five bullets through a doorway, killing the dentist. He surrendered to Sheriff Harvey at his brother’s home and was jailed in Hinds County. The case spans two states with custody questions likely.
William son of Lake Providence La president of the American Cotton Cooperative Association says cotton farmers must be compensated out of the United States treasury to achieve economic equality with other citizens. He chairs a farm bill committee and writes to Louisiana agriculture commissioner Harry D Wilson amid hearings on government loan cotton. He argues any fair farm bill must let the south export cotton and repay farmers at least part of the tariff toll they pay on goods.
Governor Richard Leche issued a 60 day reprieve for R M Carr who is serving a six month sentence in Ouachita parish jail. The action followed recommendations from the Ouachita parish coroner the trial judge and Carrs attending physician. Carr was convicted in Monroe in the spring term district court of stabbing his brother in law Earl Woag.
