Secretary Hull, addressing the National Press Club via radio, denounced Germany Italy and Japan as would be conquerors seeking to subjugate others by force. He cited war, terror, propaganda, and forced labor as tools, warning of aims to control the high seas and reject peaceful international order.
Draft Director Clarence A. Dykstra said four cabinet members and Rep Paul Kilday would draw the first numbers in the upcoming conscription lottery to select 8500 men for a year of training. The event will be held in the Inter departmental Auditorium with numbers posted publicly and tight security to prevent tampering.
The National Horse Show will add mechanized army displays including tanks scout cars artillery and motor cycles with machine guns. The event runs at Madison Square Garden from November 7 to 13.

Eligible crops include rotation pasture, biennial or perennial legumes, grasses, lespedeza, rye, alfalfa, cowpeas, velvet beans, crotalaria, soybeans not mechanically harvested, oats, and barley.

A federal jury in New Orleans found Leon C. Weiss guilty of using the mails to defraud after about six hours of deliberation. Weiss faced charges tied to inflating a Tech job contract by about $56 000 with $27 000 in overcharges and 29 000 in extras.
