In Boston Oct 24 Governor James M Curley and port collector Joseph A Maynard were separated by guards after a heated exchange at a Democratic Business Men's league dinner Curley praised Roosevelt and Joseph Methe while Maynard pressed for credit The quarrel occurred in the hotel lobby as Curley’s daughter Mrs Mary Donnelly tried to intervene.
Huntington West Virginia October 24 UP Detective Lt Leslie J Swann announced the arrest of Charles Buffington Baldwin 41 a scion of Huntington families on a murder warrant for his mother Mrs Juliette Buffington Enslow found beaten and strangled by her bed last week Initial police belief blamed a burglar with jewels missing but later evidence led to Baldwin who was taken to the sitting room of his mother's home and would not be questioned that night He is the son of Charles Baldwin and Mrs Enslow daughter of the city's first mayor
Preston Halstead, 23, farmer near Pioneer Louisiana, died from two skull fractures after a Friday night disturbance in the Pioneer gin. Gin foreman Clifton Vining was arrested on bond and released as witnesses recount a confrontation and a fatal blow with a heavy chisel. Union Oil mill driver Marcus Clay found Halstead early Saturday morning as authorities investigated the case.
Miss Alma Browder daughter of Mr and Mrs E W Browder of Baucomville was struck by a car at an intersection and taken to St Francis hospital with a head laceration and leg bruises. The driver J T Wilhite of Baucomville stopped after the collision and no charges have been filed.
In New York Oct 24 Wilfred J Funk publisher of The Literary Digest declines a $10,000 bet with Joseph Medill Patterson over which poll better reflected New York state results. He cites possible NYC bias and says the magazine takes no sides or favors.
William P. Dillon reports Louisiana’s largest national election campaign contribution, with Orleans parish quota oversubscribed and New Orleans raising over 10 000. Governor Leche adds 500 dollars while Mayor Maestri matched it, as state industrial leaders back the Roosevelt fund.
Ipswich England October 24 A Bewigged Justice Sir John Anthony Hawke opened the session for the divorce suit of Mrs Ernest Wallie Simpson friend of King Edward indicating the case may not proceed until Tuesday amid a prior round of criminal matters. Ipswich townspeople witnessed a parade of constables escorting an imaginary person through Lee.
Mrs. Cody Richardson was found unconscious on the statehouse grounds in Baton Rouge. She had head wounds and claimed she did it herself. Police opened an investigation and she was treated at a hospital. condition not serious.
Jackson Mississippi mayor Walter Scott charges the New Orleans WPA regional office with blocking the airport project. He warns the city will close the municipal airport and turn the site into a park if work does not start immediately and meet the March 1 1937 deadline. He blames WPA engineer R W Langley for stalling progress and asks Washington officials to take control.
President Roosevelt dictated rough drafts of major campaign speeches in the Lincoln study after breakfast. He planned to speak in Pennsylvania and New York on Thursday through Saturday and also prepared non political talks for Howard University dedication and Statue of Liberty celebrations. Nine speeches were in the works.
James W. Carmalt, national mediation board chairman, told Minden mayor David W. Thomas the board cannot help settle the Louisiana and Arkansas railway employee strike due to the company's stance. The delay stems from President C. P. Couch insisting on separate meetings with each craft, a tactic Carmalt says is not supported by the railway labor act.

In Trinidad Colorado a severed female leg was found dragged by a dog to a local residence. Sheriff Ray Marty investigated the case linked to 18 year old Frances Vigil reported missing from Denver. The leg was amputated seven inches above the knee and the thread on the clue appeared broken.
Oct. 24 reports say Fascist war planes bombed Madrid suburbs including Getafe and Cuatro Vientos. Insurgent pilots claim government planes are absent, suggesting revolt or convoying officials. Madrid residents brace as anti-aircraft guns and cellars go on 24 hour alert amid warnings. The insurgents also reported capture of Zarzalejo.
