Services held across Midway Baptist Old Saline Baptist Church Monclova Baptist Church Kilpatrick's chapel and Mulhearn locations with burials at church cemeteries Memorials note long illnesses deaths in Jackson Parish Ouachita Parish and surrounding areas. Survivors include multiple children grandchildren and siblings.
The famed trumpet star Al Hirt will headline a concert at Monroe Civic Center arena on Saturday November 4 at 8 15 p m sponsored by the Monroe Firemen s Pension Fund Attendance is expected to draw a wide local audience with Hirt noted for his New Orleans style and television fame. His wife Mary hails from New Orleans and they are known for strong ties to the Crescent City.
Northeast Louisiana State College reports 31 states and 14 foreign countries represented in this semester's enrollment. 91 percent of students are Louisiana residents, with Ouachita Parish the largest but shrinking contributor at 2,628 students. Foreign attendees come from Thailand, Honduras, Venezuela, Japan, Costa Rica, Free China, Canada, Greece, Iran, Korea, Lebanon, Peru, Syria and West Pakistan.

Two PAP CO boilermakers were injured at the International Paper Mill in Bastrop about 9:30 a.m. today while lifting an air duct in a recovery boiler under construction. Gene A. Del Rio, 27, of Rayville, was treated locally then moved to St. Francis Hospital Monroe. Gerald W. Duke, 40, of Strong Arkansas, remained at Morehouse General with a broken left leg. The incident ended a 124 hour safe work streak.
The Monroe and West Monroe post offices urged residents to use ZIP Codes on all Christmas mail. Postmasters Hathorn and Roark said this will help process a record mail volume of 7.5 million at Monroe and 3 million at West Monroe, stressing early shopping and mailing. ZIP directories and locator cards were distributed to aid compliance.
