From Pyongyang Korea Oct 21 U S advance halted for 15 minutes to aid a lone American pilot. Four F 51s escorted the wounded man to safety but he died hours later as the column pressed toward Pyongyang.
The week of October 22 28 will be designated American Legion Week in Monroe. Mayor John E Coon issued the proclamation as L B Faulk Post 13 of Monroe seeks to reach a membership goal of 50 000 Legionnaires in Louisiana. Edith Farris will register members daily at the Virginia Hotel lobby during Legion Week. The piece also notes broader Legion aims and honors veterans in the community. Marion High School elects Dee Platt president of the senior class with Clyde Brashier as vice president and Dorothy Jean Gilbert as secretary.
The Okaloosa chapter of Future Homemakers of America elected officers for 1950 51 with Barbara Ann Roberts as President and Mary Holloway as Parliamentarian. Committee heads were named and a chapter delegation to the state meeting in Alexandria Iowa was announced.
Harry Anson Finney of Chicago renowned as the Dean of American Accounting will speak at a banquet during the October 26 27 Louisiana accountants conference on the Louisiana Tech campus. He will discuss depreciation policies and asset replacements. Finney is a partner at Bauman Finney and Company and editor of Prentice Hall accounting series.
Seventy five mothers and fathers heard Rev R H Staples pastor First Methodist Church West Monro e speak at the Selman Parent Teacher Association event on a night nicknamed fatt ers night. Staples urged spiritual balance as essential to meaning and personal growth.
Sergeant Laura Luttrell of Route West Monroe learns her son Cpl Grady Luttrell has been promoted to sergeant while serving with the signal corps at Camp Gordon Ga. He joined the armed forces two years ago.
