Southwestern Louisiana Institute names three new dormitories Beverly Randolph Hall Lady Baker Hall and Emily Huger Hall to honor former New Orleans residents who helped shape the campus. The $750000 project houses 300 women and includes a social room for commuter students.

Veterans warned on eligibility for GI bill training

The Veterans Administration issued a warning to World War II veterans with a pre November 1 1949 certificate of eligibility planning to study under the GI bill. It cautions that benefits require the school to be legally permitted to train veterans at government expense and operating for at least a year and approved by the state. Certificates issued after November 1 will specify the course and school and be valid only for the chosen option.

Rent controls lifted in Lincoln parish except Ruston

Ruston, La October 17 rent controls in Lincoln parish were removed by housing expediter Tighe E Woods. A statement from the local rent advisory board says demand for rental housing is reasonably met in the parish except for Ruston, so Woods will decontrol the rest of the area while keeping Ruston under control.

Local housing board outlines decontrol plan and members

The local board with chairman G E Faulk Jr along with Howard Smith T E Raley Amos Ford and George Nicol will continue to handle rental housing issues. Woods says the 1940 housing rent act decontrol policy ends prolonged controls as peacetime economy returns. Rent controls will end once demand for rental housing is reasonably determined. Surveys are made and sent to the housing expedited office to support termination.

Postmaster Noms for Louisiana Sent to Senate

President Truman has sent postmaster nominations for Louisiana to the senate. Carlos J. Turner of Dry Prong succeeds B. N. Eubanks who was transferred. Lucie D. Wanersdorfer of Lettsworth succeeds I. E. Mounger who retired.

Building Permits Issued For Homes and Move

Jessie Rose received permission to move a building to 223 Marx Street for 112 dollars with J. Peyton Parker as the contractor. J M Edwards obtained permits to erect four dwellings at 1603 1605 and 1607 South First Street totaling 14850 dollars with owner as contractor. W G Crenshaw was granted a permit to build a dwelling at 120 Egan Street for 4000 dollars with owner as contractor.
