GE and unions reach three year contract end 125000 workers to avoid strike

Washington AP General Electric Co and 11 unions agreed Friday on a three year contract with about 5 percent annual value including 28 cents per hour wage rise and up to 10.5 cents in cost of living pay. The settlement averts a strike of roughly 125,000 GE workers and follows White House and AFL CIO President George Meany involvement amid potential Taft Hartley injunction. Meany called it a major achievement for bargaining while noting grievances procedures remain weak and the union stands ready to strike if needed.

Westinghouse Labor Fight Averted By Federal Mediation

In Pittsburgh, Friday night intervention by a federal mediator halted a potential midnight strike involving about 75,000 Westinghouse Electric Corp. workers. Contaminated Water Shown In Reports

West Monroe water samples from May and June were labeled contaminated by the Louisiana Board of Health.
