ST and St Louis report Washington University scientists identified the exact origin of the disease attack in glial cells of the brain and spinal cord using an electron microscope at a conference on myelin. The agent causing sclerosis remains unknown and therapy implications are unclear.
Mrs. B. Carrell, 62, was impaled on the gear shift lever during a collision in Fort Worth Texas while workmen freed her with a hacksaw. She remained conscious throughout. Her husband suffered a chest injury. other occupants were unharmed. The lever was sawed from the car after ten minutes.
Richard Taylor of 1000 Short Layton Street was arrested at Five Points intersection for alleged shoplifting. Police say he possessed six pairs of men's shorts a ladies pocketbook and costume jewelry. He had been under suspicion for about two months in thefts from Monroe department stores and faces felonious theft charges. He will be transferred to Ouachita Parish authorities.
Fire crews battled several grass and forest fires in Ouachita Parish and Jackson and Union parishes. About 35 to 40 acres burned, with the largest nearly 25 acres in northeast Jackson Parish requiring four-state units. Cause blamed on carelessness and possible sparks from a train engine.
