A Navy plane crash in New Orleans killed five Marine air reservists and injured one. Victims include Lt. Col. George Forbes Bastian and MSgt. George Veach, both New Orleans residents, plus First Lt. Woman Hit By Runaway Automobile on North Second
A mother with her eight month old child in her arms was struck by a runaway car in the 200 block of North Second Monroe. Driver Fredessa Shamlin, 31, parked on a incline without setting the brake. The car rolled downhill brushing Emma Steele of Albuquerque and stopped when it hit a motor scooter at Drouet's Drug Store. Steele’s injuries were termed inconsequential. no charges were filed.

In Chester California on October 11 a grocer Gard Young 43 and three of his children Judy 6 Jean 7 and neighbor Michael Faile 4 were found beaten to death in the trunk of Youngs car. Death claims Mrs. Fennell in Monroe after illness
Mrs. Robert Fennell aged 66 died at a local hospital after a brief illness. Funeral arrangements were pending last night, with honors and burial planned at Riverview Cemetery. She was born January 17, 1886 in Malta Illinois and married in Kirkland in 1908.
