Huey P Long announces a state tour beginning next Sunday to discuss tax problems and the tax reform program. He will visit towns across the state with his sound equipment and literature as Louisiana officials plan a possible special legislative session.
A public hearing is scheduled for October 12 at 11 a.m. in Columbia on the Louisiana Highway Commission’s request to bridge the Ouachita River. John L. Lewis announced that Philip Murray advised Thomas Moses of H. C. Frick Coke that the union stands ready to negotiate an agreement with captive mine owners under the Roosevelt settlement. President Roosevelt presses steel industry into good faith talks with miners to end the Pennsylvania coal strike and dedicates a Gompers monument while recovery officials finalize the next phase of the drive urging immediate purchases.
A. F. Wyatt was arrested by sheriff's deputies with help from Columbia officers for a confidence game at a Three Bar filling station on the Columbia road. He allegedly obtained about $10 by using a change scam after tendering a $10 bill and taking the station's change plus the bill, then fleeing. Her maids are Mary Ruth Holland Elizabeth Rainwater Dell Barksdale Jane Gayne Margaret Hadley and Evelyn Ponder. Coronation is Friday evening with ceremonies. Miss Ruston and her maids will sit on the platform in city park before a reception for visitors.
Clayton Touchstone signed an agreement Saturday to depart Ouachita parish for four years as a condition of parole from Monroe city jail. He faced about one year in jail and had multiple arrests by city and parish authorities. He was once charged with robbery but the count was reduced to assault. He had just been released from the parish road camp when arrested again on charges of being variously delinquent and petty offenses.

In Crossville Tennessee authorities announced life terms for William Wilder and William Burgess after a 19 year old Canton Ohio youth James Copeland was slain in 1928. Wilder's wife Lavada received a minimum murder sentence. The case surfaced when Marie Warner reported abuse by Wilder, leading to the exhumation of Copeland's skeleton.
Hazel O’Brien 35 estranged wife of Willis H. O’Brien film technician in King Kong case killed her two sons Willis Jr 13 and William W 14 at a Westwood Hills home then shot herself. Police label a charge of suspicion of murder and she says husband bears no blame. William was blind.

George Machine Gun Kelly, being led from the federal courtroom, threatened oilman Charles Urschel with a grim gesture and warned “you’ll get yours yet.” Urschel ignored the exchange as an officer moved Kelly to safety.

Tom Manion a discharged Dallas county deputy jailer convicted of aiding Harvey Bailey to escape from Dallas jail last Labor Day was sentenced by Federal Judge William H. Atwell to two years in the penitentiary and fined 10000 Grover Bevi butcher who pleaded guilty to the charge drew fourteen months. Judge Atwell called Bailey's escape a crime that shocked the community and perhaps the nation.
Judge Thomas F. Porter of Lake Charles announced in Shreveport that he will run for the Louisiana Supreme Court from the third judicial district in 1934. He confirmed the move to succeed Judge Winston Overton, while currently serving in the 14th district.
