Ouachita Parish will hold draft registration for men aged 21 to 35 on October 14. Nine Acre Roman Fort Found Near Stanwix by Scots Workers
In Carlisle Scotland on October 5 workers building air raid shelters near Stanwix uncovered a nine acre Roman fort dating to the second century. Part of Hadrian's Wall the rectangular site measures 580 by 700 feet and is 200 feet wider than any other fort on the wall. Hadrian's Wall runs 74 miles from Solway Firth to the Tyne, built about 120 A D to shield Britain from northern tribes.

Wholesale Merchant Dies On Fishing Trip
Joseph Mickel a Monroe wholesale merchant aged 58 died of a heart attack while fishing on the Ouachita river with Najeeb Thomas. He founded Joseph Mickel and Brother, now Joseph Mickel and Son, and is survived by his widow and two sons. Funeral services are planned Sunday at 3 p.m. at 505 Grammont Street with Masonic rites at Monroe City Cemetery.

Five Men Die In Private Plane Crash Near Velasco
Five persons were killed when a private airplane crashed about a mile southeast of Velasco Texas late today. Victims included Dave S Crowne of Velasco and his son J Crowne plus Tony J Knowhlea and Claudesie Dame among the injured or deceased. The Sulphur company employee Eure unidentified had been conducting passenger flights in the area for several weeks.
