A TEN-MMEMBER FACULTY WILL STAFF THE SCHOOL WITH MURPHY J RODEN AS COMMANDANT. COURSES INCLUDE TEN WEEKS FOR PROBATIONERS AND SIX WEEKS FOR ADVANCED STUDY.
About 600 Abilene residents and McMurry College students rode a special train for Abilene day activities and the McMurry Austin game in the Cotton Bowl. A group of about 1,500 from Louisiana State Normal Watchitoches and nearby towns chartered a day trip to the exposition. A school concert was arranged and yesterday's attendance reached 20,831.
The Louisiana state election contest board refused to permit Socialists and the People’s party to have names of presidential electors printed on November ballots. Dowling said the ruling would be challenged in a mandamus suit next Monday. The board cited failure to meet the five percent vote threshold in prior elections. Louise Jessen and Dowling represented the Socialists while Alvin Kaplan spoke for the People’s party.

Ouachita parish district court and Monroe federal court grand juries start investigations for fall terms Monday morning. Parish jurors meet at the courthouse after charges by Judge David J. Garrett, while federal jurors convene at the post office with Judge Ben C. Dawkins delivering the charge.
Wiley Hayes a farmer from Bostick place north of Holly Ridge died two and a half hours after a collision on Highway 80 at Rayville. The driver identified as Tatum of Jackson Mississippi took Hayes to a Rayville physician for first aid before transporting him to Monroe hospital. A sheriff report was filed and Tatum stayed overnight at Rayville.
New Orleans, Oct 3. John Gardner, 48, a crippled Meraux grocery clerk, said he finally caught a burglar after a life of vigilance. Deputy Sheriff Celestin Rowley said Gardner grabbed a pistol and shot the intruder, Ernest Leach, 18, also of Meraux, killing him.
Madrid reports evacuation of civilians and militiamen after a fresh air raid by insurgent planes. Wounded depart toward Valencia on the coast as Fascist lines tighten around the capital. Officials say 45 bombs were dropped with no casualties and minimal damage. Fascist attacks press defenses north of Madrid.
In Gulfport Mississippi a 10 year old guard was slugged and gagged as Mark Oliver former police chief and constable of Bay St. Louis led a premeditated jailbreak. Oliver escaped under police fire while two companions were recaptured. Tear gas stalled the other prisoners as the siege closed.
In Woodbridge New Jersey on October 3 three middle aged housewives abandoned the idea their neighbor is a witch after conversations with a Hungarian parish priest Rev Vincent Lenyi who spoke to them in their native language.
New Orleans reports the state supervisors of public accounts expect 5,000,000 additional sales tax tokens to be ready for distribution throughout the state on Monday.

Governor Richard W Leche commuted the sentences of Joe Bailey Sr. and Joe Bailey Jr. for murder and manslaughter to time served, releasing them from Livingston parish terms. Additional clemency extended to Warren Parker, Artie Squire, Norman Boutte, Anthony Lorio, and George Cook with various commutations and pardons.
George Sheram aged 98 died at the Confederate Soldiers Home in Atlanta. He was wounded at Bull Run and Gettysburg during the Civil War.
