One Dies One Hurt As Hunt Season Opens

Two hunters were shot on opening day of squirrel season in Northeast Louisiana. Elvin Monroe Kelly, 27, of Hemphill Texas, died at Madison Parish Hospital from a chest wound after unloading shotguns near Somerset on US Highway 165. Guy Ivan Davis, about 60, of Shreveport, was listed in critical condition at Concordia Parish Hospital in Ferriday after a head wound while squirrel hunting near Bayou Cecodrie. Davis’s son Charles Davis, 26, of Shreveport, said the party also included Emmett Bonner of Shreveport. The shooting occurred as the group hunted Saturday morning.
