A truck carrying eight men collided with a runaway automobile owned by James Smokey on the Minden Homer road near Minden Louisiana. Leonard White 29 died a few hours after the crash. The seven other injured men were taken to a sanitarium in Minden Bill Denham Raymond Carnahan Bill Misier Martin Talten Robert Shadow Luther Monzinge Weston Shadow. Car nahan was reported improving. White is survived by his wife and six months old child.
Mrs Iey S Wallis of 1109 North Second Street West Monroe suffered a fractured right arm after stepping into the path of a southbound car driven by W C Fleet 49 of Hotel Frances near the Washington and North Fourth streets intersection. Fleet stopped and took her to St Francis sanitarium. Her condition was not serious. A second accident at 9 30 pm at Washington and North Tenth streets involved H H Miller 22 of West Monroe and William Butcher 24 of Girard with extensive vehicle damage.

The Ouachita Valley fair in northeast Louisiana opens Tuesday and runs through Sunday October 3. New livestock buildings, improved main pavilion, and better grounds accompany larger agricultural, livestock, and home economics displays. Rides and Glad Way attractions join six West Monroe Rodeo performances starting Tuesday night. Harry D. Wilson, commissioner of agriculture, will speak Thursday at 3 p.m.
New York police and detectives swarmed Grand Central Station after a Queens man reported a bombing threat. The hour passed with no incident beyond train arrivals and departures as more than 100 detectives were deployed and railroad officials warned to watch for suspicious packages or people.

Louisiana State University president Paul Hebert said he will recommend to the board of governors that Northeast Junior College be permitted to establish an aviation corps under Civil Aeronautics authority sponsorship. Monroe businessmen C. E. Woolman D. Y. Smith Joe Durrett and H. K. Touchstone met Hebert after a Washington conference with Groves Webster. The next board meeting is set for October 14 with potential for a special session.
The Monroe Civic Music association wrapped up its fall campaign at 10 pm with 600 members for 1939, up from about 500 in 1938. Three high grade concerts are planned featuring nationally renowned artists. names will be announced soon. Eighteen captains led 102 workers as Columbia Rayville Bastrop and Ruston reports buoyed efforts. Max Moses praised the turnout and Mrs. C. C. Calvert and Miss Evelyn Hue aided at headquarters.
A one cent rise in consumer milk price to 11 cents per quart takes effect Sunday under the new milk marketing agreement. All other dairy products will rise proportionally.
