In Shreveport on November 23 Judge Ben C. Dawkins overruled motions for directed verdicts in the Wimberly mail fraud case. Five defendants including Lorris Wimberly and J Rush Wimberly Jr face charges of using the mails to defraud Bienville parish police jury and J D Adams Co. of $20 000 over a 1937 road machinery purchase. The judge affirmed an uncurable original illegality in the transaction and the trial proceeded after recess.

In Shreveport on November 23 Patrolman J R Kelly shot a man after a chase through a busy downtown area. The wounded man William A Garrett gave his name Reagan Harmon of Houston Texas. Garrett was identified and Houston authorities say Harmon is wanted on forgery charges in several cities. A Shreveport police captain noted the license on Garretts car matched Harmon and the incident prompted a blood transfusion to save the wounded man.

Guardsmen to Answer Army Call on Monday
New Orleans dispatch reports over 3,000 Louisiana war guard officers and enlisted men are to be inducted into federal service for a year starting Monday. About 500 trainees come from New Orleans.
