Baton Rouge reports indicate Governor Sam Jones will soon unveil plans for a special legislative session to enact new revenue measures. Election returns show broad support for amendments raising taxes, including corporate and personal rates, with talk of reviving a sales tax in a redesigned form.
The Ouachita Parish Chapel of the American Red Cross launches its annual Roll Call Monday with E C Gibson as chairman. Clifford M Strauss leads the large gifts division starting Tuesday. Gibson notes funds aid local chapter and US emergencies. reliefs include aid to 16 service members, 61 veterans, and various families across food, medicine, clothing, and transportation.
