Governor John McKeithen clinched a second term with a commanding victory in the 14 parish 5th District, garnering 72 166 votes to Rep. John Rarick's 26 081 with 270 of 283 precincts reporting. In Louisiana, veteran Jamar W. Adcock and newcomer Brown won the first Democratic primary in the Fourth District for the state Senate. Adcock led with 25 978 votes and Brown collected 23 702, both beating three opponents. Turnout neared 60 percent across Ouachita Morehouse East Carroll and West Carroll parishes. Brown heads to the Feb. 6 general election with no Republican opposition.
