Monroe Soldier Receives Bronze Star for Heroic Action

Corporal Silas H. Mays Jr. son of Mrs. Ollie Lee Mays of Monroe Louisiana has been awarded the Bronze Star for heroic action against the enemy in France with United States forces. He has also earned the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal the American Defense Service medal and the Good Conduct medal.

Legion to Initiate Large Group of Veterans at November Meeting

The L. B. Faulk Post No. 13 plans a large initiation of War II and War I veterans at the Legion Memorial Home Monday night at 8:00. Members aim to reach the 1944 45 quota of 436, with 481 already enrolled, as Commander E F Jones notes Louisiana’s department maintains continuous Big Ten status in the national American Legion.
