U S. bombers and artillery killed 638 communist troops near the DMZ with B52 strikes, B57 jets, and ground fire. A two car crash on rain slicked Milhaven Road near Monroe killed Rayville man Robert Lee Gammell, 49, a maintenance worker at E A Conway Memorial Hospital. His wife, a Rayville resident, and a Monroe woman were injured including Mrs. Leslie Cockrell, 56, who suffered a fractured collarbone and other injuries.
