Illinois Parole Grants to First Real Automobile Bandit
Teddy Webb Chicago’s infamous car bandit, who helped pioneer automotive robberies, has been granted parole after serving 34 years of a life sentence for killing a Chicago policeman. Webb, aged 58, led a gang notable for using cars in 1912 robberies and escaped multiple times before capture. He had escaped Joliet prison in 1925 and earlier saved a guard’s life during a riot. A Bible class at First Presbyterian Church in Mount Prospect Theatre plans a 9:45 a.m. meeting Sunday with R. E. Ellington presiding.
