Union Parish bonds approve Bernice garment plant project
In Farmerville area news two bond issues totaling 318000 were approved to build a sleeping garment factory in Bernice. The parish issued 218000 for a 35000 square foot building leased to a national firm, employing about 500 workers with a 25 000 dollar weekly payroll. Bernice approved 100000 to expand the water system to support the plant, with one dissenting vote. The Bernice Manufacturing Corporation will operate, funded by mill taxes, on property assessments totaling over 1.4 million in the parish.
