A Soviet commentator accused Anglo American war makers of using the North Atlantic treaty to gain bases and dominate the world. A half century of service to the Order of St. Francis will be celebrated with a jubilee at St. Matthew's Church on Thursday for Mother Mary de Nazareth. Attending will be Bishop Charles P. The $400 000 science building at Northeast Junior College opens to the public this afternoon from 3 30 to 5 30 p m. The two story cream brick structure houses eight modern laboratories and is showcased by co chairmen L L Price and Lewis Slater with faculty volunteers guiding tours.
Three Carolina youths held in East Carolina parish prison on grand larceny warrants. Detectives reported two caught in the act taking an inner tube from a car at Plum Street carnival grounds. Identified as Jack E. Lewis 20 Landrum SC George W. Whiteside 19 Campobello NC and Delard Nanney 17 Tryon NC.
A 17 year old Sterlington youth, William Moncrief, was arrested on simple burglary charges after allegedly entering Stall Drug at Sterlington twice through a skylight. About 149 dollars was reported stolen. He was on probation from the Louisiana Training School and remained detained with no bond set.
Oak Ridge celebrated the opening of its gates after a white fire set by the atomic pile burned a ribbon at the entrance. Guards allowed tens of thousands into the city while a three hour parade preceded remarks by Vice President Barkley and Senator McMahon calling the event historic.
The Ouachita Parish drive totals rose to 3785 dollars yesterday as reported last night. The sum reflects overall ticket sales activity during the week for the drive.
Ouachita Parish High School choir plans to attend the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in Wales next June. Students have sold over $2,000 in concert tickets with a $10,000 goal, aided by a string of fundraisers and the promise of a one day vacation for reaching the target.
Fire Captain R L Frantom notes more than ninety crutches are loaned out with only about ten on hand. He urges borrowers to return them when finished so others may use the free public service. The crutch loan is offered in the public interest.
GuadalupeCalifornia faces a dog heavy situation with 9000 dogs and 3000 humans reported by City Clerk Lorraine Spicer. Few licenses are issued and authorities warn that stray dogs are a growing problem amid a recently cut fence pound and a dog friendly town attracting unwanted canines.
New York March 19. A world peace conference opening next week faces withdrawal of sponsor Sarah Gibson Blanding president of Vassar College and possible addition of Sidney Hook NYU professor. Hook says he was denied a place yet would speak if invited. Conference organizers say the event will be democratic though criticized as pro Soviet propaganda by the State Department.
Neville High School will host the Third Annual Convention of the Louisiana Association of Student Councils with the theme Youth Participation in a Democracy. About 200 delegates from roughly 20 schools are expected. 400 schools were invited. The event is led by Miss Sammy Ducote with J M Boyer and Shelby M Jackson giving welcomes and Dr T Q Srygley delivering a guest address.
A Lockheed Neptune P2V 3C, loaded with a 37 ton payload, flew 2000 miles from the carrier Coral Sea to Patuxent Naval Air Station. Capt John T Hayward led the flight as Navy officials described routine tests expanding carrier borne aviation reach.

Factors include last year’s price decline, potential loosening of controls, possible wartime price supports ending, favorable weather, and growing use of inputs. The department targets about 365 million acres with some reductions in wheat soybeans dry beans and cotton to balance export reliance.
A Memphis man Curtis Childs, 21, was killed instantly and George Beasley, 28, of Chicago Heights Ill., seriously injured when their car left U S Highway 167 near Bernice Louisiana at 2 20 pm. The auto rolled several times, came to rest in a field. Beasley was taken to a Ruston hospital. Childs body taken to Kilpatrick Funeral Home Bernice. Funeral plans pending.
