Husband Killed Saving Wife From Electrocution

In Baton Rouge a husband, Samuel Voorhies, 28, died saving his wife from an electrical short in their basement while applying insect spray to a lamp attachment. The wife suffered burns and was hospitalized. Voorhies, native of Moreauville, had lived in the area six years and died late last night.

Tragic electrocution claims Voorhies in garage accident

A man died after in a garage incident where the floor was wet and he reportedly pulled his wife to safety before being struck by live electricity. Voorhies is survived by his widow, two children, five brothers and five sisters.

Target Practice Scheduled Rifle Meet Saturday

The Rifle club sponsored by the Monroe Recreation department will meet at the police officers range on Buck Jones lane Saturday afternoon at 1 30. A brief meeting will precede target practice with ammunition and guns supplied by the department. Participants aged 10 to 18 are invited. no personal firearms needed.

Bernice Doctor Suffers Injury In Auto Accident

Dr. C. C. Colvin aged in his early seventies sustained a right hand injury requiring surgery after a head on collision on the Marion highway one mile north of Bernice around 6 20 p m Thursday. His condition was reported as good. Mrs Forrest Post and her young daughter, riding with the Rev Forrest Post, suffered only minor forehead lacerations. The crash happened as Colvin signaled a left turn and the other car veered into his lane.

Chamber Backs Planning Measure Across Louisiana

The Monroe Chamber of Commerce urges state support for house bill 1193 to create regional planning commissions. James S. Williams notes local backing from Twin City officials and school boards. A contract totaling 38671 has been given to W. C. Salley to repair Carver Elementary School damage caused by water and smoke. Superintendent Van D. Odom announced Friday that work will start immediately, with Rivers and Heuer as architects.

Pearl Jackson Dies in Auto Crash Near Farmerville

Pearl Jackson, 55, of Huttig Arkansas, died from a broken neck and internal injuries after a single vehicle crash one mile north of Farmerville on the Farmerville Marion route. Five children were not seriously injured. she died en route to Wadlington hospital. State police investigated the accident.
