Des Moines River Flood Forces Massive Prep in Ottumwa

In Ottumwa Iowa the Des Moines river rose at about a half foot per hour with flood stage at 9 feet and a projected crest near 20 to 20.5 feet by tomorrow noon. Thousands of sandbags, supplies, and evacuations pressed as Eddyville and Tracy faced record heights and Red Cross teams reported 7,000 to 10,000 homeless in Des Moines region.

Woman Injured in Auto Truck Collision at Louisville and North Fifth

A collision at the Louisville and North Fifth intersection left one woman slightly injured and two others unhurt. O. L. Hammond of West Monroe was treated for minor bruises at St. Francis Sanitarium before returning home. Police say the eastbound pickup driven by Robert Washington struck the northbound auto driven by O. L. Hammond.

Sleeper found in labor bill threatens press freedom

Senator O Mahoney said a Taft Hartley clause would bar newspapers and news services from commenting on political campaigns and block coverage of conventions. He warned the provision could prohibit corporations and unions from publishing political content and impose penalties up to 5000 dollars for firms and 1000 dollars or a year in prison for officers. The drafters allegedly used vague language leading to unintended victims.
