Six provinces report heavy toll and widespread property losses from Thursday’s hurricane. Deaths exceed eight in the capital with 500 homeless. La Paz Cabanas Cuscatlan Usulutan San Vicente and Miguel severely damaged. Army deployed to repair roads and restore order as communications remain disrupted.
Monroe records show 93 degrees on Saturday as Miss Katie Key notes the heat, with Thursday at 95 and the year’s high at 97. Heavy rains to the north lift the river about 1.5 feet from a late low, after a period of pool level. Saturday’s river reading was 14.9, up from 14.6 the day before.

L. C. Shaw 50 of Shreveport died near Arcadia when his car slid 200 feet into an embankment. Verne Anderson, driver from Shreveport, was cut and bruised. Shaw fainted after a brief conversation. Coroner ruled the death accidental.
Governor Paul V. McNutt said Indiana will not agree to any amnesty plan for John Dillinger. He rejected talks through the outlaw's father and any peaceable surrender under a supposed federal proposal. The plan envisioned a fair trial and rewards for Dillinger's capture.
Clarksdale Mississippi June 9. District Attorney Greek Rice ordered a full inquiry after reports that a mob of about 125 men seized Isaac Thomas and Joe Love from officers at Alligator near Lambert and hanged them from a trestle. The men were accused in the assault on a plantation manager’s wife near Sledge. Officers say they did not recognize any mob members. The two men were arrested in Greenwood in connection with the attack.
In Greenwood Mississippi on June 9 Judge S F Davis overruled a motion for a new trial in the LeFlore county circuit court case against Dr Sara Ruth Dean convicted of slaying Dr Preston Kennedy by poisoning him in a whisky highball The court granted her bond remains at 10000 and counsel immediately filed notice of appeal to the state supreme court The judge said the case should go to the high court and that the defendant would stay free on bond pending supreme court action
Memorial services were set by the motion picture colony for Dorothy Dell the 19 year old Miss Universe of 1930 whose career ended when she was killed in an automobile accident along with her escort Dr Carl Wagner. Services planned for tomorrow in a local mortuary chapel with Rev Dr Willsie Martin of Wilshire Methodist Church to lead a final tribute before her funeral in Hattiesburg Mississippi.

The plan earmarks 125 million for relief work, 100 million for cattle shipping and processing, and 1 million for emergency feed loans. John Lukas a coal miner was arrested in Pittsburgh for mailing a bomb to Washington that exploded injuring a clerk Myrton Genung and another worker. The package mailed May 15 aimed to injure Lukas wife Marit in Czecho Slovakia. Lukas alias Lukac 41 jailed on $10 000 bail awaiting Monday hearing.

Roughly 80 Boy Scouts from four Ouachita Valley council troops arrive at Camp Ki-Ro-Li near West Monroe for the official start of the summer camping period. Troops 34 67 56 and 31 led by C J Fleming Tom Wafer C Van Zeijden Fletcher Ashcraft and Walter McGee join the opening activities with a noon meal in the main mess hall and will remain until next Saturday afternoon. Camp staff had prepared sleeping and other facilities in advance.
