No Super Road Contracts Set In State Areas
The Bureau of Public Roads will announce that the interstate highway program is moving on schedule though Louisiana has not awarded any miles yet. As of June 1 preliminary engineering and right-of-way buyouts total 9.196 million dollars in Louisiana with a federal share of 7.439 million. Louisiana advertised bids on two projects worth 1.614 million, but no contracts yet. The nationwide program shows 1,930 miles under construction, 207 miles more in May, and 1,629 miles to come. The 41,000-mile network will link 48 states and 90 percent of cities with populations over 50,000. The 13-year plan costs about 27.5 billion, aiming to serve 100 million vehicles by 1957, up from 65 million.
