In WeWoka Oklahoma on June 3 Bradley Reich Charles Pretty Boy and two companions Blackie Smatley and Troy Keesee were arrested at the former’s home near Seminole and jailed. Reichita and Ivan Reichita escaped. Sheriff Frank Aldridge and Deputy Bill Nicholson led the arrests after officers confronted the group shortly after midnight on a highway. A posse of about 50 officers hunted Pretty Boy near Earlsboro. Mrs Floyd Smaley and Eva Simpson were jailed for questioning over a car allegedly found in their possession.
Wayman Wallace 47 of 700 Wood Street West Monroe drank poison before noon Saturday. He was found later and rushed to Clinic in an ambulance. Unconscious on arrival, initial prognosis was poor but he later rallied with condition improving. Wallace left a note saying I am going to kill myself.
The Senate, by 48 to 20, backs the administration’s plan to allow payment of all contracts in legal tender money, removing the gold payment requirement for public and private obligations now or in the future. The measure, already passed by the House, awaits signatures before going to the White House as further attempts to narrow its retroactive scope fail.
In W T tone on June 3 the senate banking committee weighs limiting the concentration of industrial and financial control after disclosures in the J P Morgan inquiry. Members say no formal action yet but discuss possible measures while awaiting further evidence and a full committee review.
GROVE CITY, Pa. June 3 James A. Farley postmaster general forecast the return of two cent postage on letter mail within the next few weeks. Speaking at Grove City’s dedication of the new federal building he said he expects President Roosevelt to sign the postage cut bill in a few days. He cited unmistakable signs the postal service is sharing in the business recovery and noted April revenues were a little higher than a year ago with many cities reporting larger gains.

They gave names as Douglas McGarity and M P McGarity reporting Vicksburg as home and said they were brothers en route there.
President Roosevelt named J. J. Thomas of Nebraska and M. S. Szymczak of Chicago as members of the federal reserve board. He also sent nominations to the Senate for Carroll Miller to the Interstate Commerce Commission Harold M. Stephens to be assistant attorney general Frank J. Wideman to be assistant attorney general and J. C. Smith to be district attorney for northern Alabama.
Residents in outer San Francisco felt a strong earthquake around 6 45 tonight with downtown observers reporting a lighter tremor. No damage was reported.
James Mattern, the American flier, began his solo circumnavigation from Floyd Bennett Field at 4 20 a m E T and crossed Newfoundland heading seaward. He reached Lewisporte, N F at 11 30 a m E S T, narrowing the record time and planning a Paris stop within 27 hours before continuing toward Moscow.
Kansas City June 3 Two men Walter Mc Gee 2% former Oregon convict and Clarence Flick 27 of Kansas City confessed kidnapping Miss Mary McElroy daughter of City Manager H F McElroy. Federal grand jury indicted eight in plot and McGee said he and Clarence Stevens entered the manager's home and forced Miss McElroy to accompany them.
In Opeouslas La on June 3 P court officials announced the district criminal court term set for June 12 to June 26 would be canceled because St Landry parish cannot collect taxes and cannot pay witnesses or jurors. Petit jurors were told not to appear. Judge B H Pavy postponed court until fall. Evangeline parish took similar action weeks earlier for lack of funds to pay jurors.
After a 17 and a half hour deliberation, the jury found Orville Elmore of Pine Bluff, Ark. guilty of manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Ted Reiser at 614 Plum Street last August 26. Sentence was postponed as the defense weighs an appeal. bond was denied and Elmore was remanded to jail.
In Vatican City on June 3, Pope Pius XII declared Spain’s President Niceto Alcala Zamora and other leaders excommunicated under new Spanish religious laws. The encyclical, denounced as a grave spiritual attack, signals a possible break in diplomatic ties between Spain and the Holy See.
Firemen traced a string of alarms as West Monroe and Monroe units battled two homes and two other structures damaged in a night of fires. The Dortch residence at 719 North Fifth Street suffered the heaviest loss estimated around 2500 for the building plus 2000 in insured coverage. Fire crews responded to 307 Drew Avenue and Baucom on the west side with one alarm later ruled false and another minor blaze. Estimated total damage ranged from 4000 to 5000 dollars. Residents J L Dortch and spouse escaped safely before flames engulfed their home.

Grand prize of 25 dollars went to Nelson Bland Ouachita Parish High School for Monroe Storage battery ad. Doris Davenport Sterlington of Ouachita Parish High won 10 dollars for Standard Office Supply ad. Neville High’s Babs Gottlieb won for Palace ad and Rose Marie Zagone of St Matthew's for Griffin Studio ad.

Beverly Hills, June 3. Special. Rogers praises midgets as a fine breed and describes Morgan as humane for organizing relief. He says Morgan added everyone to the preferred list to balance the plan, noting few objections from those previously overlooked.
Mrs. R L Hales 55 of 3810 Polk street died from injuries after a collision between her car and a North Monroe machine driven by J C Ward at Thomas and Jackson streets. She died two hours after being rushed to a local hospital. Ward and his family escaped unharmed. Mrs Hales leaves a husband, several children, a sister, and three brothers. Funeral planned at Gordon Avenue Methodist church with interment at Riverside burial park.
Mrs Richard Downes rings valued at 1200 and 1500 dollars were stolen from her at 315 Louisville Avenue May 20. Sheriff Milton Coverdale said diamonds were recovered Saturday night and Albert Fitzhugh a night porter at the Ouachita National Bank Building was arrested and said to have confessed to the theft.
Lu cien L. Jarreau aged 49 secretary treasurer of the Louisiana Sugar and Rice exchange is reported by police to have ended his life by swallowing poison late today. Relatives and friends are at a loss to explain the act.
Mr and Mrs L F Payne and two children Euell 11 and Maxine 9 were kidnapped by two men linked to a gang of 11 convicts during a Lansing Kansas prison break. They were forced to drive to Pine Bluff Arkansas before being released. Authorities say the Paynes and neighboring victims were moved to Malvern before release.
Sheriff Milton Coverdale received a letter from Gregg County Texas Sheriff W H Hayes reporting jewelry found with James Key after a May 29 arrest was stolen from John Borden of Kilgore. Hayes holds a felony warrant and asks custody once Louisiana releases Key. Key previously confessed to burglaries at Mra FE Smith and L C Garrett homes in April, and to thefts from Dr A J Emerson and John Hay with a two year parish road sentence served 76 days. He claimed blame and exonerated a younger brother awaiting charges. Key has connections to Shreveport Vicksburg and past escapes from road gangs.
Howard Norman, 15, drowned at Noyes Lake seven miles from Shreveport on Greenwood road. He went under about 3 p m while swimming with 14 year old Charles Barney who was on the bank. Norman, found in 45 feet of water, marked the third drowning in four days in the Shreveport area.
