Aston Texas July 22 reports say a tropical storm of light intensity is crossing the Gulf toward Matagorda bay. Winds up to 25 miles an hour were felt near Port O’Conner as tides swept beaches. Residents boarded windows and moved to inland towns awaiting a major blow. Small boats secured and Corpus Christi noted a falling barometer. Houston had rain and a light breeze. Matagorda bay region remains sparsely inhabited.
State Senator W B Roberts of Rosedale announced plans to re enact the quart law at the next regular session. The measure would allow a citizen to possess no more than a quart of liquor per week to address the liquor problem and foster temperance reform.
Circuit court extended to allow jurors to resume deliberations in the murder trial of Dominick A. Bove Jr. Miss Harring died after an alleged head injury. The defense contends illness and accidental fall caused the death. Judge E L Brien ordered the term continued into next week as jurors remain deadlocked after nearly a day.
Chicago July 22 A suit for divorce has been filed in circuit court against Donkey Pate Whitehead heir to a soft drink business fortune and head of Atlanta Georgia. Attorney Benjamin Erlich says a property settlement was reached and the divorce will likely be granted next week. Desertion is the charge and Marion Hughes Whitehead long has lived in Chicago establishing residence.
A labor dispute escalates as 300 sound men from 12 major studios walk out effective at midnight after producers refuse to negotiate individual wage contracts. The walkout is ordered by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees.
Wall Street closed with modest gains as the market steadied after wide intraday swings. Mixed bids and uneven moves left the averages higher by a few cents to several dollars, with total volume around 4.22 million shares amid heavy turnover.
Mollisons known as the Flying Sweethearts left Pendine Wales at 11:59 am in the Seafarer bound for New York. They expect about 34 hours to reach the U S coast then plan a non stop run to Baghdad Mesopotamia before a return to England in seven to ten days.

Washington reports cotton farmers who signed option contracts to reduce their crop faced a paper loss of over 15 million dollars in the past week. The drop in prices since July 15 cut potential gains from six cents a pound to the market price, eroding the margin on options worth about 2.2 million bales across 16 states.
Oregon voters repeal the 18th amendment by nearly two to one in a special election. Returns show 112,541 in favor and 59,499 against for repeal. state totals favor repeal 117,963 to 60,754. Governor Meier plans a constitutional convention to ratify repeal on August 14.
Traffic between Monroe and West Monroe halted for about an hour yesterday when the bridge opened for a boat with barges and could not be closed. A short circuit in the electrical line powering the motor stopped the span, closing it after repairs began. Motorcycle Officer Rufus Goza supervised operations and was marooned on the span until work finished.

Two men named Beach and Montgomery were arrested in Longview Texas and jailed in Lincoln parish Louisiana in connection with a beer truck robbery for the Ouachita Candy Co of Monroe. Officials say they confessed aiding Louis Landry who was already jailed in Ruston. The theft occurred Thursday morning near Ch t when Ford was to unload the truck and two gunmen forced him into the woods before the other two escaped with the beer. The truck was later found near Coushatta with Landry driving it.
Irving Friedman who funded the Alaska search for Jimmie Mattern said a flight from Nome to Terrace will join the rescue group. Friedman organized funds to charter a plane and he and pilot William Alexander will return to New York once in Terrace. They are due Monday or Tuesday and will proceed via Edmonton Saskatoon and Winnipeg to Duluth Buffalo and New York.
Orville Elmore was granted a new trial by the Louisiana supreme court and released on $2,500 bond from the parish jail yesterday. He was convicted of manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Ted Reiser and will be retried during the November term. bondsmen are D. L. Roper and Emmett Ramsey.
Wiley Post lands at Floyd Bennett Field after a nonstop flight from Edmonton. Official elapsed time 186 hours 49 minutes, claiming a world record of 18 hours 50 minutes. crowd of about 3 000 greets him as Major J Nelson Kelly notes takeoff and arrival times. Post traveled nearly miles in about a week, finishing just under his prior record. Mrs. Post joins the celebration in New York.
Mrs. Juanita Downs twenty two drank most of a six ounce bottle of disinfectant in her room at 205 North Third Street shortly after 11 last night. Police said she was rushed to St Francis sanitarium and refused to discuss the motive. She was alone when the ambulance arrived. doctors expect a full recovery.
