Skin divers recover body of diver at Priest Rapids Dam
A commercial diver, Clarence Shaw of Pasco, Wash., was brought to the surface dead by skin divers after a falling object severed his lifeline while he worked two hours on the upstream face of Priest Rapids Dam. A Grant County PUD spokesman said he was knocked off a platform when the object fell.

Monroe Police Blotter Reports Multiple DUI Arrests
Monroe police arrested Albert P. Cook 39 for operating while intoxicated along with simple battery and reckless driving and set a $500 bond. Two others, L. L. Malone 41 and HW. Erdmann 36, were held on peace warrants with bonds of $600 and $1,100. Troop F state police nabbed three for impairment: Cleven Jimmerson 20, Ethel Lewis 47, and Willie Williams 40.

Diver dies at dam after lifeline torn by object
Cause of death unknown at first. Skindivers from Moses Lake secured a heavy line to Shaw and hauled him to the surface. Air was pumped through a rubber hose as the crew kept Shaw from being pulled up to prevent the airhose from parting. Shaw was inspecting a generator inlet on the dam when the lifeline and telephone connection were ripped by the object.

Explosion Causes Heavy Damage at Longhorn Plant
An earth-shaking blast at the Army Longhorn ordnance works damaged the facility but left no injuries. Lt. Col. John E. Harrison said the explosion hit a remote control mixing station that makes solid rocket propellant fuel. Thiokol Chemical Corp. operates the plant for the Army, with about 1,500 workers at Karnack near Marshall. Further damage estimates were not provided and a subsequent report was expected.
