Gang Lord Wortman Shot in Abdominal Wound
Frank Buster Wortman, East St. Louis gang boss, suffered a serious abdominal gunshot Saturday. Deputies swarmed his Collinsville area mansion as two unidentified men transported him to St. Mary’s Hospital in a wheelchair. Wortman remained in serious condition after emergency surgery. he claimed the shooting was an accident and did not occur at his tavern or home. He has led East St. Louis rackets since 1947 near Collinsville, Illinois.

Man 70 Dies As Fire Razes Cheniere Home
A fire of undetermined origin swept a frame house in the Cheniere area on Saturday, killing 70 year old H. M. Prescott of Route 1 West Monroe. The house burned about 11:45 a.m. and was destroyed before firefighters could enter. An unidentified housekeeper escaped. Ouachita Parish Coroner Dr. John P. Burton ruled the death accidental. Funeral plans are incomplete with Mulhearn Funeral Home handling arrangements. Prescott, a Tennessee native, resided in West Monroe since 1944 and was a retired railroad employee. Survivors include wife Carolyn Prescott of Norco, La.. daughter Mrs. James C. Dimn of Rayville. sons H. M. Prescott Jr. of Noreo and Dr Lionel Prescott of Murfreesboro, Tenn.. sister Mrs. W. HL. Champier of Memphis, Tenn.. and 11 grandchildren.
