A sudden blizzard trapped travelers in the southern Texas panhandle as army trucks carried medicines blankets and food to the marooned near Tahoka and Lubbock. Authorities cleared highways with 180 pieces of equipment while schools frantically traced 100 missing pupils found safe.
Governor Earl Long said he would recover 80 to 90 percent of funds diverted during the Leche administration totaling about two million dollars. He criticized O John Rogge and defended New Orleans Mayor Maestri amid indictments over oil profits and urged Louisiana voters to back him next Tuesday. The remarks came during a rainy drive through Winnsboro Louisiana.
State Senator James A. Noe, speaking for reform candidate Sam Jones, said Earl Long promises convict labor to win votes. Monroe ministers who knew Sam Jones for years released messages for publication. Rev. H L Johns of Lake Charles endorsed Jones saying he is not an infidel and worthy of respect. Rev S L Riggs of Shreveport called reports false and said Jones is true blue and stands four square on moral and legal questions.
The Ideal Portland Cement plant at Okay near Hope received first gas from a 73 mile Cotton Valley pipeline built by Louisiana-Nevada Transit company with a 12 mile spur to the main line. The line serves Hope water and light and the Hope Brick company, cost about 509000, and marks Louisiana-Nevada’s entry into the Arkansas field ahead of a long serving Arkansas-Louisiana Gas company.
