Washington reports that Dr John P Hagen head of the Vanguard satellite project told the House Armed Services Committee that a moon shot could be attempted in about a year using existing rocket engines. He said the Thor or Jupiter could enter production with a backlog of missiles and instruments might be sent to the moon without hindering IRBM development. Completed January 30, the well in Carelton Field produces about 1.5 million cubic feet daily with eight to ten barrels per million cubic feet of 58 gravity distillate through a 10 to 64 inch choke. Open flow capacity is estimated.
