Survivor of Alps Crash Credits German POW With Saving His Life
Des Moines flyer Angelo LaSalle survived a B 17 crash in the French Alps after being flung from the burning aircraft. He was found by Horst Kupski, a former German air force pilot working for a French farmer, who gave LaSalle his shoes coat and hat. Twelve Americans died when the related C 47 transport crashed earlier. LaSalle recounted guiding the pilot away from the wreck and being crushed by the wing tip before being knocked unconscious.

In West Muncie Indiana two elderly men were found dead in separate rooms. Coroner Eugene Eissman identified them as Jasper E Poore 76 a former minor league manager and player and Mike Kelley 75. Poison suspected and two doses found with tea on the kitchen table. Poore had played and managed in several leagues and last worked as a scouts for the Philadelphia Athletics. He was said to be a cousin of Honus Wagner.
