Plane escape tragedy near idlewild after gear failure

Dr. Hamilton Succumbs and Rites Held for Monroe Surgeon
Dr. A. Scott Hamilton, prominent Monroe physician and surgeon, died early Saturday at his Island Drive home just before his 58th birthday. Funeral services were held at Peters Funeral Chapel with Rev. George W. Pomeroy. he is buried in Old City Cemetery. Hamilton, a Sacramento native, studied at UC Berkeley, Tulane Medical School, and the University of Minnesota. He led Monroe practice from 1936, served as Army chief of surgery at Camp Claiborne and as surgical consultant with the Eighth Army in the Philippines, then returned to Monroe as a practicing surgeon.

Four people died in highway crashes during the long holiday period.
