Yuba City Evacuated After Feather River Levee Break

A 40 foot break in the Feather River levee at Yuba City caused mass evacuation as floods across California Oregon and Nevada swelled homeless counts to about 35 000. Marysville Stockton and Modesto also faced rising waters while debris and damage ran into millions. Police ordered residents from the town and refugees moved north toward Colusa and Woodland as the disaster was labeled major by President Eisenhower.

Atlanta Negroes Play Golf On City Course After High Court Order

About 150 white golfers and five Negroes teed off at the North Fulton course at 8 30 a m as the U S Supreme Court ordered Atlanta courses opened. The Holmes family, among the plaintiffs in the federal suit, joined the early round though Dr H M Holmes did not play. Stores Banks To Close Monday In Twin City Holiday Notice

Merchandising houses in Monroe and West Monroe will close Monday after Christmas. Monroe Retail Merchants Association and West Monroe Businessmen's Association announce closures. All Twin City banks and city hall offices except police stations will also be closed for the holiday.
