Missing 3 year old triggers massive Pekin search
More than 500 volunteers combed nine square miles in Pekin Illinois for three days seeking 3 year old Mike Ivey who vanished after being let out to play. Authorities including Tazewell County Sheriff George Sweeter refuse to rule out foul play and expect divers to search a gravel pit. Bombs explode at Yale party no injuries reported
Two four inch by one and half inch pipe bombs exploded at a children's Christmas party in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico offices on Fifth Avenue New York City. Police said pro Castro elements may be responsible though no motive is known. About 70 children were present but none were harmed as shards sprayed a hallway and emergency crews rushed to the scene.

Decorations Winners Named in Monroe Christmas Contest
Mrs A E Fontana of 2905 Lee Ave won first place in the Monroe Junior Chamber of Commerce Christmas home lighting contest. Bobby Sadler, committee chairman, said judging was Friday night. Barney Lipscomb of 601 Eason Place was the second place winner. Sadler said Fontana will receive a plaque at a February luncheon. The Jaycees plan to make the contest an annual event.

Snow Storm Sweeps Into North Areas
A pre Christmas snow storm dumped up to 10 inches in eastern mountains and swept into Washington and Baltimore. The storm closed hundreds of schools and sent 250000 government workers home early in the capital while shutting Baltimore city offices. Snow extended from Nebraska to the Virginia coast with dire weather across the region. New Orleans AP. The Justice Department asked a federal appeals court to hold Mississippi Governor Ross Barnett and Lt. Gov. Paul B. Johnson Jr. in criminal contempt for blocking the enrollment of Negro James Meredith at the University of Mississippi last September. The court ordered the government to pursue the contempt.
