In Woodland California a jury acquitted Judson C. Doke, 34, milk inspector, of murder in the slaying of Lamar Hollingshead, 23, UC student. The verdict followed 20 hours of deliberation after two trials, amid courtroom cheers and a judge urging redress for unfaithfulness.
Berlin reports indicate former Cuban president Gerardo Machado is free to roam in Germany and may have crossed into Switzerland. No extradition treaty exists with Cuba, and Germany will decide on arrest only after Cuba submits complete charges. A treaty is under discussion but unsigned, and a judicial probe is expected to be lengthy.
