Local notes indicate the Zuni tribe intends to host a rain party with a five thousand dollar budget to seek favorable weather. Fundraising and community involvement are highlighted to support ceremonial efforts.
At Tuesday noon the Lions Club meeting featured Miss Betty Rhinehart and Mrs. Dallas Goss providing entertainment. Guests included May Harvey Benet, Mayor Harry M. Williams Jr, Benny Bickne, and Asien Sugar. An auction for charity will be held next Tuesday noon with each member contributing an item for bidding.
President Roosevelt disclosed that the American Red Cross has spent or will spend more than 500000 for relief in European war areas. He cited 25600 sent to Finland for civilian uses and 16000 for medicines in London for Finland. He praised former President Hoover’s fundraising for Finnish relief.
An Italian citizen of German origin and three others were arrested in Liege on espionage charges. Police say the Italian ran a small cafe frequented by soldiers and his room contained a general staff map of the Chevatte region along with a machine gun and pistol.
Senator Hatch of New Mexico said Attorney General Murphy would be an excellent choice for the Supreme Court vacancy. He also noted his personal preference is Judge Sam G. Battton of New Mexico and predicted quick Senate confirmation if Murphy is nominated.
The offices of Representative New Vo Mills confirm a WPA allotment of 49 163 dollars for construction and destruction of public roads in Richland parish. The Richland parish police jury approved the plan and named the project as eligible for funding.
