ERA GIVES ESTABLISHMENT FOR NE LA FARMERS

Miss Rebecca Cassell, ERA director for northeast Louisiana, announced a shift from CWA sanitation to a part time plan for about 25 000 farmers and tenants. The ERA will allow continued sanitation work at reduced weekly pay but over a longer period, preventing harm to the strawberry belt and crop season. Both farming and sanitation efforts will run concurrently to sustain health and farming programs.

Prohibition Play Shown At West Monroe School

The play Who Killed Earl Wright was presented Friday at Crosley school by prohibition groups of the Twin Cities. Louisiana Anti-Saloon League secretary Dr. Leon Sloan played defense attorney. A talk condemned teaching high school girls beer with cast including Monroe and West Monroe citizens. Pledge cards were distributed to youths 13 to 34 to form a young prohibition group focusing on citizenship, social service, and legislation.

Four Alarms Answered by Monroe Fire Department

Members of the Monroe fire department answered four alarms Saturday two grass fires and a burning telephone pole at Orange and Jackson streets. Grass fires occurred at 2701 Grayling Jane 1300 North Fourth Crescent Bend and at Standifer and Jackson streets. Fire companies No. 4 1 2 and 3 each had runs.

Fred Hanna of the motor vehicle bureau reports strong first day auto license sales for 1934 with 46 licenses issued on December 1. Statewide license owners have until February 5, 1923 to secure licenses without penalty, and a January 1, 1934 rule requires trailers over 150 pounds to have brakes for plate issuance.
