Mr and Mrs C C Lindley just returned from a month long auto trip covering about 6000 miles. They toured Colorado and Cheyenne Wyoming where their son Jack serves in the US Army at Fort Warren. They visited Yellowstone Portland Seattle and praised the scenic Northwest climate and varied landscapes. Shenandoah is noted as a word meaning land of big mountains.

Darwin Plans to Interview WWII Veterans for State Roles
Joe Darwin director of the state department of veterans affairs will interview World War II veterans with college degrees at 10 am Thursday in Ouachita parish. He will select 16 men for state veterans organization posts and send them to a four week school in New Orleans starting September 3 to learn laws and duties. Additional interviews will be held in Shreveport Alexandria Baton Rouge and other parish offices as part of expanding local guidance to ex service members.

The War Department announces an October deadline of October 5 for men to enlist in the Regular Army to receive full GI Bill benefits including a four year college education.
