Acid Attack in Chicago Civil Rights March Sparks Injuries

Tornado Sweeps South Caddo Parish Causing Wide Damage

A Friday afternoon tornado swept across south Caddo Parish hitting homes trees and power lines with four dips. No injuries were reported. The storm touched down near Wallace Lake Mayo Road Lucien Airfield Forbing and the Norton estate at Ellerbe and Flournoy Lucas Roads. A mile wide swath of shattered trees followed as Jim Stanford and his daughter Debra watched the tunnel to the southwest about 3 15 p m before seeking shelter.

Three Die In Head-On Crash In Catahoula Parish

Three men were killed in a head-on collision on La. Hwy. 124 about three miles north of Jonesville. The deceased are Thomas N. Drewett 45 of Jena Jerry Mc Laurin 28 of Jonesville and Harry McLaurin 20 of Collins Mississippi. Funeral plans are announced for Jerry Mc Laurin with services at Station Creek Baptist Church near Collins and burial at the church cemetery.

Prison Riot Breaks Out at Walpole Prison

Between 50 and 100 prisoners rioted Friday night at the Massachusetts State Prison in Walpole taking over the prison hospital area. Six guards were stabbed but escaped and were hospitalized with no serious injuries. State police riot squad arrived and the riot was reported under control an hour after it began. The Walpole facility opened in 1953 southwest of Boston en route to Providence.

House Panel OKs Back To Work Bill On Struck Airlines

The House Commerce Committee approved a back to work measure by a 17 to 13 vote to force 35 400 striking aircraft mechanics to return to work on five airlines for up to 180 days. The bill mirrors a Senate plan and could reach the House floor by Thursday. The administration avoids endorsing or condemning the plan.
