At Camp Shelby a permanent shoe shop is set up to supply about 1,500 parts a day. Soldiers take two pairs of brogans. Colonel Joseph P. Sullivan leads a crew including civilian shoemakers, noting the south’s largest shoe repair shop operates there.
Theft of a blue 28 inch bicycle belonging to Emile Wilson of 2105 Flynn Street was reported late Friday night. The bicycle was taken from in front of the Ritz theater according to local police.
Washington Aug 9 Officials map a peacetime U S agriculture plan with stronger federal control and a family-size farm goal. Plans favor continued price supports while expanding credit tools to shift surplus crops and aid low income rural areas.
The Federal Works Agency said savings from economies in construction on six low rent housing projects in New Orleans will fund a seventh for nearly 1,900 people. The total savings amount to 2,493,100 dollars. President Roosevelt approved a 2,430,000 dollar project for 540 homes. The seven projects will create about 5,500 homes for an estimated 18,000 low income families.
Revenue Collector Rufus Fontenot announced by telephone that his daughter Dorothy Fontenot Green in Beaumont Texas gave birth to a son late today. The item notes the family news as Fontenot is in Louisiana for the report.
Washington reports all steel forms placed under priority control to back defense orders, with ships allowed heavier cargoes after abrogating the international load-line convention.
