Dr. Stephen Ward 50, an osteopath and social figure linked to the Profumo scandal, died of a drug overdose at St Stephen's Hospital after a note saying he was sorry to disappoint the vultures. He was convicted at the Old Bailey on living off earnings of Christine Keeler and Marilyn Rice-Davies but did not hear the verdict. Hurricane Arlene intensified and moved west north west prompting a hurricane watch for the U S Virgin Islands. The Weather Bureau warned the Leeward Islands and Martinique to expect effects Sunday while Puerto Rico could be impacted Monday if the storm maintains its course. About 360 miles east of Guadeloupe and 9 miles east southeast of San Juan the system extended gale winds 175 miles northeast and 75 miles southeast. Aerial recon was increased with San Juan plans four daily flights into the center.

Tragedy at Rockford Flying Meet Claims Two Lives
A Virginia restaurant owner James Edward Tyndall and his wife Mary Ellen died in a fiery crash of their home built plane during a mass flying meet near Rockford Illinois. An experimental aircraft also crashed south of the site killing two civilian airmen. Paul Poberezny of Wisconsin, head of the Experimental Aircraft Association, led the group at the airport.
