Negro Arrested on Murder Charge in Monroe
J B Butler, a Negro, was arrested Saturday night and jailed on a murder charge. Police say Butler struck Ivey Lewis with a brick on July 29. Lewis died Saturday afternoon. Butler was fined $50 in city court by Judge W M Harper and rearrested, transferred to the parish jail awaiting September grand jury action. The deceased’s body rests at Miller Funeral Home.

Won't Take Plea in Murder Case
Mrs Grace Wynne 50 refused to enter a plea at arraignment on a first degree murder charge in Kansas City. She was jailed without bond for an August 12 preliminary hearing after a plea of not guilty was entered for her. Wynne plans to consult Monsignor Keyes before pleading. She is accused of killing the former husband John A Thompson's wife in 1934 after a 15 year divorce. A new sanity hearing is set for next Monday in probate court.

Coast Guard Opens 150th Birthday Celebration
Boston August 3 The United States Coast Guard marks its 150th anniversary with a week long celebration. The service reports more than 10 000 lives saved last year and $63 723 566 in vessels and cargo aided to safety. Rescue totals for the current year are expected to be similar, with yearly averages around 8 000 to 9 000 rescues.

Man from Marshalltown Fatally Crushed Using Rail as Pillow
