Strike Protests Suspension Of Anchor Bay Teachers
About 361 students at Anchor Bay High School walked out Friday to protest suspensions and a one week unpaid firing for a teacher while principal Rudy Pontoon wore large armbands after an election defeat of a tenure proposal. Classes ran at reduced strength with substitutes covering 18 suspended staff. The district has no tenure protections, and voters rejected a tenure proposal 835 to 310 in a recent special election.
